The complete Golden Care maintenance kit for teak garden furniture combines Teak Cleaner 1000 ml and Teak Protector 1000 ml with the accompanying tools. It takes you through two clear steps: first clean the surface, then restore its color. Plan the treatment based on the condition of the wood, allowing time for it to dry.

A kit for cleaning and adding a honey-brown color

Teak Cleaner is the cleaning step for teak and hardwood. The cleaner removes dirt and helps refresh discolored wood. The Teak Protector in this version is Honey Brown, for a warm honey-brown finish. Each product has its own purpose and instructions for use. So read both labels before you begin.

First decide whether honey brown is the look you want. If you want to preserve a silvery-gray patina or choose a different color, another maintenance approach may better suit your goal. Before treating the whole set, test the color on your own prepared wood. This lets you see how the shade looks on your table or chair.

Prepare based on the existing finish

Check how the furniture has been maintained in the past. Golden Care advises against applying Colour Protector directly over a layer of oil. First clean weathered or previously oiled teak according to the Teak Cleaner instructions. Also follow your furniture manufacturer's care advice, especially if the lacquer or coating is unknown.

Protect your work area and wear the gloves and eye protection specified on the labels. Have the prescribed tools ready. Before you start, check the contents of your own package and use the appropriate tool for each step. A cleaning pad and a cloth for applying a protector serve different purposes.

Clean first and allow the wood to dry completely

Dampen the wood with water. Shake the Teak Cleaner and apply it with a cloth or sponge. The Dutch instructions specify a three-minute dwell time. Then gently clean with a suitable pad, following the grain, and rinse the treated wood with clean water.

Allow the wood to dry completely before the color step. Follow the Protector's further preparation instructions and remove any dust. Also check whether rough wood needs to be touched up as directed. Proceed with the color test only when the surface is ready for the Honey Brown treatment.

Then apply a thin coat of Honey Brown

Shake the Protector for at least one minute and test the color on a small, inconspicuous area. Then apply a thin, even coat with a soft, lint-free cloth. The Dutch Honey Brown instructions specify a second thin coat after 30 minutes. If the instructions differ, follow the label on your product.

Allow for the prescribed drying time after application as well. The time between coats does not automatically indicate when the furniture can be used again. Follow the instructions on the bottle. For ongoing color maintenance, Golden Care recommends reapplying at least once a year, always after assessing and preparing the wood appropriately.

An optional extra transparent step

If you also want a transparent, water- and dirt-repellent treatment after the color treatment, take a look at Teak Shield. Shield is a separate product and is not part of the Cleaner + Protector kit. Golden Care recommends applying the color protector first, then allowing 24 hours for it to dry before applying Shield.
