Cleaning garden cushions
Remove loose dirt and check the wash label and furniture care advice. Test Fabric Cleaner 750 ml first for colorfastness on an inconspicuous area. Moisten the appropriate fabric and spray the ready-to-use cleaner onto the wet surface.
The Dutch Golden Care instructions state a soaking time of three to ten minutes, depending on the level of soiling. Clean gently with a suitable sponge or soft pad and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Follow the label on your own bottle if the instructions differ. Allow both the cover and the filling to dry completely before protecting or storing.
Treating stubborn stains
Address spilled drinks or dirt promptly according to the fabric care advice. Test the cleaner, and for local stains, also adhere to the preparation, application time, and rinsing instructions for Fabric Cleaner 750 ml. Hard scrubbing can damage the fabric; a longer application time is not automatically better.
Dark spots or a musty odor can have various causes. Do not assume guaranteed mold removal with a standard cleaning. In case of persistent spots or damage, seek advice from the supplier and do not apply a protector over dirt or moisture.
Waterproofing garden cushions
Only use Fabric Protector 750 ml if the application is suitable for your fabric and the existing finish. Test the protector separately. Clean soiled textiles first and allow them to dry completely. Then, apply evenly according to the label and let the treatment dry thoroughly before use.
The protector makes suitable textiles water- and dirt-repellent; it does not make your cushions waterproof. Follow the quantity, number of layers, and drying time indicated on your packaging. After cleaning and during seasonal maintenance, check whether re-treatment is necessary. With the Fabric Care Kit, you can choose a 750 ml Cleaner and a 750 ml Protector, together with accessories.
Store cushions properly
Always store cushions dry — never damp in a box or cover, as this causes mould and musty odours that are difficult to remove. Always clean cushions thoroughly first and let them dry completely before storing them. Store them in a dry, breathable cushion box or cover, preferably in a dry, frost-free place.
Wipe the cushions down regularly with a damp cloth and treat stains immediately — this will keep them fresh and colourfast all season long with minimal effort.
Frequently asked questions about maintaining garden cushions
Can garden cushions go in the washing machine?+
Only if the care label and the manufacturer permit it. A zipper is not a washing instruction in itself. Follow the prescribed temperature, cycle, and drying instructions. You should also first test Fabric Cleaner for colorfastness and suitability; no treatment is automatically safe for every fabric.
How do I remove mold spots from garden cushions?+
First assess the fabric and the cause of the stains. Use Fabric Cleaner only according to the label and rinse thoroughly. If stains or a musty odour persist, ask the supplier for advice. Allow to dry completely and do not use a protector as a treatment for existing mould.
How often do I need to re-waterproof garden cushions?+
After cleaning and during seasonal maintenance, check whether protection is needed and permitted by the manufacturer. Follow the Fabric Protector 750 ml label for treatment. Not every fabric or finish requires the same frequency.
Can I leave garden cushions outside when it rains?+
Protected cushions with a good waterproof coating can withstand brief periods of rain. However, during prolonged rain or overnight, it is better to store them dry in a cushion box. This will make the colour and filling last much longer and prevent mould.
Can I use Fabric Protector on my outdoor fabric?+
Check the stain advice, the existing finish and the label of Fabric Protector 750 ml. A brand name such as Sunbrella or Olefin does not in itself give permission for any treatment. Test on an inconspicuous area and ask for advice if in doubt.
