Teak Protector or Teak Shield: which one do you need?

Teak Protector and Teak Shield have different functions. You choose a colour protector for the desired wood colour. Shield is transparent and makes the surface water and dirt repellent. Therefore, start with one question: what look do you want and what treatment has your furniture already had?

You want to choose a wood colour

Within the Golden Care Colour Protector line, you can compare different shades. Honey Brown is for a honey-brown look, Blonde for a beige blonde finish. Do not choose based on a screenshot alone: view the existing wood colour and perform a test in an inconspicuous spot before treating the entire piece of furniture.

You want a transparent treatment

For a natural patina-grey teak look, Shield is the transparent choice. The product adds a water and dirt repellent treatment. If you want to give a grey table a honey-brown look, treat that colour preference separately. That is the role of a colour protector.

You want to combine both

Golden Care describes the combination in a fixed order: first clean and completely dry wood, then the chosen colour protector, and finally Shield. Allow 24 hours of drying time between Protector and Shield. Also, check both bottles for the application instructions and further drying time.

You do not know what was previously on the wood

Start by determining the previous treatment. Golden Care warns that a colour protector should not be applied directly to oiled teak. If in doubt, ask for advice with a photo of the furniture and, if you still have it, the name of the previously used agent. This way, you avoid choosing a product while the preparation is still unclear.
