After cleaning, an HPL or Polywood tabletop needs appropriate care. Golden Care Polywood Protector is a treatment for these materials that helps prevent stains and makes the surface water-repellent. The bottle contains 500 ml. Check the material and finish of your furniture before you start cleaning and protecting it.
Identify HPL and Polywood first
Check the furniture details to see what material the tabletop or slats are made of. HPL and Polywood are the applications listed for this product in Golden Care’s Dutch-language information. A wood-like appearance alone does not identify the material. So don’t automatically assume that every composite, plastic or wooden surface needs the same Protector.
Also consult the furniture manufacturer’s care advice and test the product on an inconspicuous area. Real teak requires a different care routine suited to the type of wood and the desired colour. Identifying the material in advance ensures that the treatment you choose is suitable for the product it was designed for.
Prepare a clean, dry surface
Golden Care recommends cleaning first with Multi Surface Cleaner. Follow the instructions on that product’s bottle and the furniture care advice. Rinse with clean water after cleaning as directed, then let the surface dry completely. Remove any dust before applying Polywood Protector.
Protect the work area and wear the gloves and eye protection specified on the label. The Dutch Protector instructions recommend applying the product at 5 to 25 °C. Plan the maintenance treatment around the conditions and drying times specified on your bottle. This ensures the surface is ready before you apply the product.
Apply two thin coats according to the bottle instructions
Shake the bottle thoroughly for at least one minute. Using a soft, lint-free cloth, apply a thin coat to suitable HPL or Polywood. Spread it according to the label instructions. First test it on a section of the surface that you have prepared in the same way as the rest.
The Dutch Golden Care instructions recommend applying a second thin coat after 30 minutes. They then advise waiting 24 hours before exposing the surface to the weather. If the instructions differ, follow the label on your bottle. Both the wait between coats and the time before outdoor exposure are part of the treatment.
Maintain stain protection
Golden Care describes this Protector as water-repellent and as helping to prevent stains while preserving the material’s appearance. Keep the furniture clean and check its condition. The maintenance treatment is no reason to leave dirt on the surface without checking it.
The Dutch instructions recommend treating the surface twice a year and paying extra attention to tabletops as needed. Check the material and the previous treatment each time you reapply. Clean and prepare the surface again according to the bottle instructions. If there is damage or you’re unsure about the coating, ask for advice about the furniture first.
