For many people, the warm colour of teak is the starting point for their garden. With Teak Protector Honey Brown, you choose Golden Care’s honey-brown colour option. This colour treatment is intended for teak and hardwood and helps maintain your chosen wood colour. It’s especially useful with a table or a set with several wooden parts to know in advance which look you want to preserve.
A honey-brown base for your garden furniture
Honey Brown complements the warm, original wood colour that Golden Care describes as honey brown. It’s a good choice when you’re deliberately opting for that brown look. The bottle name indicates the colour direction; the surface also affects how the colour turns out on your table, bench or chair. So take a look at the existing wood and compare the test patch in daylight before treating the entire piece of furniture.
Within the same care range, Blonde has a beige-blonde finish, while Natural Brown is offered as a separate natural brown option. These colours are not different names for the same product. If you’re unsure which shade to choose, first decide what result you want to see on your own wood. A colour test gives you a better idea than a screen photo alone.
Start with clean, dry wood
First check how the furniture has been treated in the past. Do not apply Golden Care Colour Protector directly over a layer of oil. First clean weathered or previously oiled teak with Teak Cleaner, following the instructions. Rinse off the cleaner and let the wood dry completely. For new teak, also follow the prescribed preparation; new wood is not automatically ready for a colour treatment.
Golden Care specifies that the wood must be completely dry and dust-free. If necessary, prepare a rough surface in accordance with the product and furniture instructions, then remove the dust. Protect the work area and wear the gloves and eye protection specified on the label. Then test the colour on a small, inconspicuous area.
Apply thin coats at an unhurried pace
Shake the bottle thoroughly for at least one minute. Apply Honey Brown in a thin, even coat using a soft, lint-free cloth. The Dutch Golden Care instructions specify applying a second thin coat of this variant after 30 minutes. If the instructions differ, follow the label on your bottle. Carefully spread the treatment over the wooden parts you are treating, as directed.
Allow time for the furniture to dry as well as time to apply the treatment. Observe the specified drying time before using it again, exposing it to the weather outdoors or carrying out a subsequent step. The drying time between two coats and the waiting time before applying another product are separate intervals; check both on the bottle.
Plan a maintenance treatment around the colour
First decide whether the treatment is mainly for colour, stain protection or both. Honey Brown is the colour step. If you then want a transparent water- and dirt-repellent treatment, Golden Care describes combining it with Shield. Choosing these functions in advance lets you plan the preparation and drying time without rushing.
If you have a set, also assess the different wooden parts. A tabletop and a chair may be weathered differently or have been treated differently in the past. Test the chosen colour on the parts you want to treat, and only proceed if the result matches your expectations. This way, you can tailor the treatment to the actual condition of your furniture.
Colour maintenance and a possible Shield step
For the combination, Golden Care specifies applying the Colour Protector first, followed by Teak Shield. Allow the colour treatment to dry for 24 hours, in accordance with the manufacturer’s current information, before applying Shield. Also check the instructions on both bottles. Shield provides the transparent water- and dirt-repellent step; it does not replace choosing and preparing the colour.
For colour maintenance, Golden Care recommends at least one treatment per year. In the meantime, assess the condition of the wood and, when repeating the treatment, follow the preparation steps and bottle instructions again. For the full sequence, read the step-by-step guide to teak care; it shows how cleaning, colouring and the optional transparent treatment work together.
