Clean cushions and a well-kept parasol canopy complete your garden furniture set. With Golden Care Upholstery and Textile Protector, you can make suitable outdoor fabrics water- and dirt-repellent. The transparent Protector contains 750 ml and should be applied to completely dry fabric. First check the material, care label and instructions on the bottle.
Choose the right care for textiles and rope
Golden Care lists outdoor upholstery, cushions, parasol canopies and rope among the uses for its Fabric products. Check whether your furniture is made from a suitable textile fibre and finish. Follow the furniture or fabric manufacturer’s advice. The presence of rope or woven material alone does not indicate which care product is suitable.
Plastic wicker requires a different approach from textiles and rope. For furniture made from multiple materials, check each part separately: the frame, wicker and cushions may each need different care. Test the Protector on a small, inconspicuous area first and check the result before treating the entire fabric surface.
Make fabric water-repellent when it is clean and dry
The Protector makes suitable textiles water- and dirt-repellent and helps prevent stains. Water-repellent treatment does not make a cushion waterproof. Continue to follow the care and storage advice for your cushions and furniture. The treatment is part of fabric care and does not replace regular maintenance.
First clean soiled fabric with the appropriate Fabric product, following the label. The Fabric Care Kit combines Fabric Cleaner and Protector in one pack. Complete the cleaning process carefully, rinse as instructed and let the textile dry completely. Apply the Protector to dry fabric.
Applying the Protector
Protect the work area and wear the gloves and eye protection specified on the bottle. Shake the container and carry out the test as instructed. Golden Care’s Dutch training recommends spraying evenly until the fabric is thoroughly wet. The current manufacturer FAQ recommends spreading the product evenly with a clean cloth. Use the instructions on your own bottle as your guide.
Then let the fabric dry completely before using the furniture again. Allow enough time between treatment and use, whether you are treating a cushion cover or a parasol canopy. The Dutch instructions generally recommend one treatment. Do not keep adding layers without first assessing the fabric; check the application instructions on your label.
Keeping cushions and parasol canopies in good condition
Golden Care gives annual treatment as a general guideline and recommends more frequent care for horizontal, exposed surfaces. The Dutch training recommends treating these surfaces twice a year. Also assess the condition of the fabric and follow its care label. Before the next treatment, first determine whether cleaning is needed, then let the textile dry completely again.
Read the step-by-step guide to caring for garden cushions and textiles if you want to plan the full treatment. It explains how checking the material, cleaning, drying and protecting all fit together. If your furniture also has plastic wicker or a metal frame, follow the care instructions for those materials rather than automatically applying the textile treatment to every part.
