The grey appearance of teak suits a calm terrace beautifully. With Teak Protector Instant Grey, you give teak and hardwood an immediate grey colour. This Golden Care colour treatment is a deliberate choice for grey, with a colour sample and proper preparation as a starting point. The bottle contains 1000 ml.

Instant grey or let it grey naturally

With natural greying, the appearance of the wood outdoors changes gradually. Instant Grey is the colour route with which you treat the wood grey immediately. Choose this variant when you want to apply that grey colour direction during your maintenance treatment. Look at the existing wood colour beforehand and at what was previously used on the furniture.

If you mainly want to treat the existing patina-grey appearance to be water- and dirt-repellent, check out Teak Shield. Shield is transparent and has a different function than a colour protector. By first determining whether you want to colour the wood or protect the existing appearance, you choose a suitable maintenance route.

A test area for the right shade of grey

Make a colour sample on a small, inconspicuous part of the prepared wood. Let it dry and assess the shade in daylight. Use the same working method for the test as for the entire piece of furniture. For a set where the parts are differently weathered or treated, assess the relevant parts separately.

The Dutch Golden Care instructions for Instant Grey start with one thin layer. For a more intense grey colour, a second, very thin layer can be applied after 30 minutes. That is a choice within the described processing. Test the desired layer build-up beforehand and follow the label of your bottle for deviating instructions.

Preparing and treating the wood

First clean greyed or previously oiled teak with Teak Cleaner according to the product and furniture instructions. Do not apply a Colour Protector directly over oil. Also follow the prescribed preparation for new teak. Let the wood dry completely and make sure the surface is dust-free before you start colouring.

Protect the work area and wear the gloves and eye protection mentioned on the label. Shake the bottle for at least one minute. Distribute Instant Grey thinly and evenly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Treat the parts calmly according to the instructions and observe the prescribed drying time before using the furniture.

Maintaining your grey teak appearance

Golden Care calls re-treating at least once a year as a guideline for maintaining the colour. During a maintenance treatment, first look at the condition of the wood. Clean and prepare the surface again according to the bottle instructions, instead of adding a new layer without assessment.

In the combination with Shield, the current manufacturer information describes the Colour Protector first and then 24 hours drying time before Shield. Check both individual bottle labels; older instructions may mention different waiting times. In the step-by-step plan for teak maintenance, you will find the complete route from cleaning and colouring to the optional transparent treatment.
