A good teak treatment starts with clean wood. Golden Care Teak Cleaner removes dirt and helps refresh discoloured teak and hardwood. Use the cleaner as part of your own maintenance routine, for example before applying a colour protector or a transparent Shield treatment. The bottle contains 1000 ml. First, assess the condition of your furniture and any previous treatments.
What Teak Cleaner is suitable for
Outdoor wooden tables or chairs can become dirty and discoloured. Golden Care describes Teak Cleaner as being suitable for removing dirt and refreshing discoloured wood. This prepares the wood for the next maintenance step. The appropriate follow-up step depends on the look you want and what was previously used on the furniture.
Examine the surface before you start. Is it teak or hardwood, what finish is present, and do you want to preserve the existing grey patina look? This last question is particularly important: intensive cleaning or sanding can affect the greyed appearance. If you are unsure about the coating or the furniture, seek advice first.
Prepare water and a suitable pad
Protect the work area and wear the household gloves and eye protection specified on the label. First moisten the wood with water. Then shake the bottle and apply the cleaner with a cloth or sponge, according to the instructions on the packaging. The Dutch Golden Care user instructions specify a three-minute contact time.
Then gently clean with a suitable soft scrubbing pad, in the direction of the wood grain. The green Golden Care scrubbing pads are available for cleaning teak and hardwood garden furniture. Adjust the pressure and the tool to the instructions and the condition of the surface.
Rinse and plan the drying time
After cleaning, rinse the wood with clean water. Also include the corners and joints you have treated, so that the cleaning step is completed thoroughly. Assess the result after treatment and follow the bottle instructions if repetition is necessary. A cleaner does not replace an assessment of a damaged finish.
Allow the wood to dry completely before using a colour protector or Shield. This dry surface is part of the preparation for the next treatment. Therefore, do not plan the cleaning as the final step just before you need the furniture again. Also check before continuing whether the wood needs to be smooth and dust-free according to the chosen product.
The desired look determines the follow-up
If you want to maintain a chosen brown, blonde, dark or grey colour, a Golden Care Colour Protector is suitable. For a honey-brown look, for example, there is Teak Protector Honey Brown. Always first test a colour treatment on your own prepared wood.
For a transparent, water- and dirt-repellent treatment, there is Teak Shield. This option may also be suitable for a natural grey patina look. Use the products in the prescribed order and observe the specified drying times. In the step-by-step guide for teak maintenance you will find the overview; this product page also contains the instructional video for the cleaning step.
Prepare your next maintenance session
During the season, check the condition of the wood and determine which cleaning is required at the next session. Repeat the preparation that belongs with the chosen colour or protective treatment. This way, you work from the condition of the furniture and use each product for the step it is intended for.
Store the cleaner according to the label, tightly closed and frost-free. Keep the bottle instructions handy while working. If your packaging differs from the Dutch training described here, follow the instructions on the bottle itself and the maintenance advice of the furniture manufacturer.
