A reddish-brown wood tone gives a garden furniture set a different character than honey brown or blonde. Teak Protector Red Brown is Golden Care’s colour protector for the distinctive reddish-brown finish on teak and hardwood. The bottle contains 1000 ml. Apply the colour treatment to a properly prepared surface, and test the shade on a small area first.
Choosing reddish brown to suit the wood
Red Brown leaves a reddish-brown finish. The Golden Care brochure also associates this colour family with the natural reddish-brown appearance of hardwood. Consider both the type of wood and any previous treatment on your furniture. Even if a product looks appealing in colour, the surface still needs to be prepared appropriately.
A light, weathered chair and a previously coloured table have different starting points. So test Red Brown on the wood you are actually going to treat. Compare the dried test patch with the cushions, woven parts and other wooden components of your set. This helps you make a considered colour choice before treating a larger area.
Start with clean, dry wood
First check how the furniture was previously treated. Do not apply a Golden Care Colour Protector directly over a layer of oil. Clean weathered or previously oiled teak with Teak Cleaner first, following the instructions. Rinse off the cleaner and let the wood dry completely. For new teak, follow the specified preparation steps too; new wood is not automatically ready for a colour treatment.
Golden Care specifies completely dry, dust-free wood as the starting point. If necessary, prepare a rough surface in accordance with the product and furniture instructions, then remove the dust. Protect the work area and wear the gloves and eye protection specified on the label. Then test the colour on a small, inconspicuous area.
Apply thin coats without rushing
Shake the bottle thoroughly for at least one minute. Apply Red Brown thinly and evenly with a soft, lint-free cloth. The Dutch Golden Care instructions specify applying a second thin coat of this variant after 30 minutes. If the instructions differ, follow the label on your bottle. Carefully apply the treatment to the wooden parts specified in the instructions.
Allow time for the furniture to dry as well as time to apply the treatment. Follow the specified drying time before using the furniture again, exposing it to the weather outdoors or carrying out a subsequent step. The drying time between coats and the waiting time before applying another product are separate intervals; check both on the bottle.
Consider the red undertone carefully
When comparing different teak protectors, pay particular attention to the colour tone. Red Brown is reddish brown, Honey Brown is honey brown, and Blonde has a beige-blonde finish. The names help you narrow down your options. Assess the final result on your own prepared wood, as an image cannot replace testing on that surface.
If you want to change the existing wood colour, first check what is already on the furniture. Applying a product over an old oil or coating layer is not a general maintenance approach. Clean and prepare the wood in accordance with the product and furniture instructions. If you are unsure what the existing finish is, ask for advice first so you do not apply the new colour to an unsuitable surface.
Colour maintenance and an optional Shield step
For this combination, Golden Care recommends applying the Colour Protector first, followed by Teak Shield. Allow the colour treatment to dry for 24 hours, in accordance with the manufacturer's current information, before applying Shield. Also check the instructions on both bottles. Shield provides a transparent, water- and dirt-repellent treatment; it does not replace choosing and preparing the colour.
Golden Care recommends at least one colour treatment per year. In the meantime, check the condition of the wood and, if reapplying, follow the preparation steps and bottle instructions again. For the full sequence, read the teak maintenance guide; it explains how cleaning, colouring and the optional transparent treatment work together.
