Dark brown wood can give a garden bench or table a calm, lived-in appearance. With Teak Protector Vintage, you choose the dark brown Golden Care color variant for teak and hardwood. The treatment is intended to care for that chosen wood color. The bottle contains 1000 ml; the preparation and a test on your own wood remain the basis of the result.
Assessing a dark brown appearance
Golden Care describes Vintage as a dark brown finish. The brochure associates this shade with the appearance of older and reused teak. That helps in choosing a style, but does not yet tell how your existing table will look. For that, look at the current color, the weathering, and any previous treatment.
Make the color test on a small, inconspicuous part that is prepared in the same way as the rest. Let the test dry and view the shade in daylight. For a piece of furniture with different wood parts, it is wise to assess more than one starting situation. This way you can see if Vintage matches the image you have for your set.
Clean, dry wood as a starting point
First check how the furniture was previously treated. Do not apply a Golden Care Colour Protector directly over an oil layer. First clean weathered or previously oiled teak with Teak Cleaner according to the instructions. Rinse off the cleaner and let the wood dry completely. For new teak, also follow the prescribed preparation; new wood is not automatically ready for a color treatment.
Golden Care calls completely dry and dust-free wood as a basis. Prepare a rough surface as necessary according to the product and furniture instructions and remove the dust. Protect the work area and wear the gloves and eye protection mentioned on the label. Then do the color test on a small, inconspicuous part.
Applying thin layers gently
Shake the bottle well for at least one minute. Apply Vintage with a soft, lint-free cloth thinly and evenly. The Dutch Golden Care instructions describe a second thin layer after 30 minutes for this variant. In case of deviating instructions, follow the label of your bottle. Carefully distribute the treatment over the wooden parts that you treat according to the instructions.
In addition to applying, also plan time to let the furniture dry. Observe the prescribed drying time before using it again, exposing it to the elements, or performing a follow-up step. The drying time between two layers and the waiting time for another product are separate moments; check both on the bottle.
Comparing Vintage with other dark shades
Within the Golden Care color line, Wengé and Charcoal are also available. Vintage is called dark brown, Wengé has a coffee to black-brown color direction, and Charcoal makes the wood black. So choose based on the desired color shade. You do not need to consider a dark finish of another variant as mutually interchangeable.
For a gray appearance, Instant Grey is another color route. If you want to treat the natural patina gray appearance with a water- and dirt-repellent, then check Shield. By first choosing the desired color and then the additional protection, it becomes clear which steps you need and how you plan the maintenance treatment.
Color maintenance and a possible Shield step
Golden Care describes the combination first the Colour Protector and then Teak Shield. Let the color treatment dry for 24 hours according to the current manufacturer information before applying Shield. In addition, check the instructions of both bottles. Shield provides the transparent water- and dirt-repellent step; it is not a replacement for choosing and preparing the color.
For color maintenance, Golden Care mentions at least one treatment per year. In between, assess the condition of the wood and follow the preparation and the bottle instructions again when repeating. Read the step-by-step guide for teak maintenance for the entire sequence; there you see how cleaning, coloring, and the possible transparent treatment connect to each other.
