A light, beige blonde look for your teak. Golden Care Blonde Teak Protector is a colour treatment for teak and hardwood. Choose this variant if you want to give the wood a blonde finish and are looking for a different look than honey brown or grey. The treatment helps preserve the chosen colour for longer. With proper preparation and two thin coats, you can achieve a well-maintained result step by step.

The most important decision to make is before you treat the entire piece of furniture: does this blonde shade suit your wood and the rest of your garden set? Therefore, always make a colour test first. Below you will find out how to assess the surface, apply the treatment, and combine the colour step with the other products in the Golden Care teak range.

What can you expect from the blonde colour?

Blonde is the beige blonde version within the Golden Care Colour Protectors. It is a deliberate colour choice for those looking for a light wood appearance. With a set featuring neutral upholstery, it can create a beautiful overall look. When choosing, do not only look at a photo of the bottle, but also at the wood of your own table, chairs or sofa and the colours of the matching cushions.

A product photo or another treated piece of furniture can help you orient yourself. The test area on your furniture will show whether the result matches your expectations. For example, choose the back of a chair leg or another small, inconspicuous part. Assess the result after it has dried, before you decide to treat the rest. If there are several pieces of furniture in the same set, it is also wise to check whether the wood and the previous finish match.

Do you mainly want to emphasise the warm brown wood colour? Then compare it with Teak Protector Honey Brown. Are you looking for a grey colour treatment? Then check out Instant Grey. Blonde is for a beige blonde finish; choose the variant that suits the look you want to maintain.

Good preparation makes the treatment straightforward

Start with the condition of the wood. Is your furniture new, greyed, or previously treated with oil? Is there an unknown finish on it? This initial situation determines the preparation. Do not apply a Colour Protector directly over a layer of oil. Instead, first clean oiled or greyed teak with Golden Care Teak Cleaner according to the accompanying instructions. If there is an unknown paint or finish layer, ask for suitable furniture advice first.

For new teak and hardwood, Golden Care recommends cleaning with Cleaner as preparation, or letting the wood weather outside first. Also check the furniture manufacturer's instructions. A new piece of furniture therefore does not need to receive a colour treatment immediately without assessment. Use the teak maintenance guide to view the different maintenance steps side by side.

After cleaning, the wood must be completely dry and dust-free. If the surface feels rough, Golden Care recommends lightly sanding before applying the Protector. Then remove the sanding dust. Take time for this preparation: a colour test on clean and dry wood will give you a more useful idea than a test on a dirty or still damp area.

How to apply Blonde Teak Protector

Prepare the necessary items before you start: the Protector, a clean lint-free cloth, and the materials you need for preparation. Cover the surface of your workspace. Use protective gloves and eye protection, and work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Treat the wooden parts separately from cushions, rope and other parts of your furniture.

  1. Check the wood. Ensure it has been prepared according to the product instructions and is completely dry and dust-free.
  2. Shake the bottle for at least one minute. Shaking well is part of the instructions for use and helps prevent an uneven colour distribution.
  3. Make a colour test first. Use a small, inconspicuous area and assess whether the blonde shade matches your expectations.
  4. Apply a thin, even coat. Use a lint-free cloth for this. Work carefully over the wood to be treated.
  5. Apply the second thin coat. The Dutch Golden Care instructions specify a drying time of 30 minutes after the first coat. If the instructions on your bottle differ, follow those.
  6. Let the treatment dry. Golden Care advises waiting 24 hours before using the furniture or applying a subsequent maintenance product. Follow the instructions of the relevant products.

Cleaner, Blonde Protector and Shield each have their own role

With Cleaner, you remove dirt and prepare the wood. Blonde Protector is then the colour step. If you also want a water- and dirt-repellent treatment, Golden Care describes Teak Shield as a follow-up step. This makes it easier to plan the correct order and choose the products that suit your maintenance needs.

In that combination, use the Colour Protector first and then Shield. Wait 24 hours after the colour treatment before applying Shield and ensure the wood is completely dry. Therefore, plan the two treatments separately. In our article about Teak Protector and Teak Shield, you can read more about the difference between colour preservation and water- and dirt-repellent protection.

Maintaining the blonde finish

Check how the wood looks during use and clean it when necessary. Golden Care advises reapplying the Colour Protector at least once a year; the need may vary depending on use and weather conditions. Before a new treatment, assess the surface again and follow the cleaning and usage instructions. Do not apply extra thick coats on your own to hide a colour difference.

Keep the bottle tightly closed, frost-free and out of reach of children. Keep the label available for the next maintenance round. This way, you can always carefully repeat the preparation, shaking and layering.
